JULY EVENTS

  • July 8th - 11th 1PM-3PM

The instructors, Stefanie Head and Andy Young have written descriptions of what their portions of the camp will entail…

    "My Place, My Peace"

In this expressive mixed media project, art camp participants will explore the idea of personal space—not just physical space, but the emotional and imaginative spaces where they feel most at home, most like themselves. Whether it’s a cozy bedroom, a sunny backyard, a quiet library, or even a made-up world full of floating islands and friendly dragons, campers will be encouraged to tap into their unique inner landscapes and bring them to life through art.

We’ll begin by reflecting on what makes a place feel safe, joyful, or freeing, then dive into sketching and exploring different ways to represent those feelings visually. Campers will experiment with a variety of art materials and techniques throughout the week, leading up to a final mixed media piece that combines drawing, painting, collage, and other textures to represent their personal “place of peace.”

Along the way, we’ll look at work from both modern and classic artists whose art reflects a strong sense of place, emotion, and identity. Through these artist studies, students will gain inspiration and insight into how space can be represented in expressive and creative ways.

This project is not only about making beautiful art—it’s about self-discovery, imagination, and learning to trust the creative process. Each camper will leave with a one-of-a-kind piece that tells a story only they can tell.

    AND

    Who Are You Today?

On the page, you can be anyone...or even anything! In this short workshop on Persona Poems, we will explore some of the possibilities for morphing out of ourselves and into other entities. We will read a variety of poems that take on the shape of an other, and we will write our own versions of who or what we imagine we can be.
